Awards
Following on the inaugural PKBD Bursary Awards, PKBD awarded Best
Progressive Student in Computer Studies for Intake 15 of Institut
Teknologi Brunei (ITB) to Ak Aminuddin bin Pg Mohamed in May 2003.
The award was given by PKBD Hon. President, Hj Mohammed Mahathir
Abdullah, at a dinner reception held at Jerudong Park Polo Club
in May 2002.
The Bursary Awards presentation for secondary
student in 2003 will coincide with BITEX ® 2003 Exhibition and
Trade Fair. PKBD has the honour to have Dato Paduka Hj Suyoi bin
Hj Othman, Deputy Minister of Education, to present the awards and
officiate the exhibition this year which carries the theme 'Empowering
People with Education to maximise their Leverage'.
Public Lectures and Seminars
PKBD with the cooperation of Universiti Brunei Darussalam
organised a public lecture on two interesting topics namely 'Digital
Divide in Academia' and 'Global IT Infrastructure for a Global Business'.
It took place on Saturday, 27th April 2002, which took place at
UBD Computer Centre.
Dr Afzaal H. Seyal, Senior lecturer at the Department of Computing
in Institut Teknologi Brunei talked on 'Digital Divide in Academia'
highlighting the digital divide and its associated factors at two
schools, one in Temburong and the other in Brunei Muara.
Mr Mohd Nor Shafiee bin Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil,
Senior Software Engineer at Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd
spoke on Global IT Infrastructure for a Global Business and showed
the audience the application of technology in a real business
environment and focus on the importance of having a common platform
and secure IT infrastructure as we move towards the 21st century.

PKBD CHANGES MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE
PKBD, like any other organisations, had to change with the times
and to face the challenges ahead. To continue leading in promoting
the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT), PKBD changed
its membership structure. Its membership is now classified into
Fellows, Honorary Fellows and Associates. Fellows, lifetime members,
are open to current members who have actively contributed towards
the society while Honorary Fellows are handpicked by PKBD. Associates
membership are open to new joiners. To celebrate the occasion,
certificate presentation to Fellows and Honorary Fellows took
place in May 2002. The guest of honour was former PKBD's president,
Yang Mulia Hj Mahmud bin Hj Mohd Daud, Director of ITSSD.
